Lesson of the Day: A Noose Is Never An Appropriate Gift

A Wisconsin high school student has been suspended for giving racist items, including a noose, to a fellow African American student.

Principal Eric Russell, says the noose-giver was unaware of the racial significance of giving such a 'gift'. "They were in an art class, and a little macrame noose was made, and some kind of KKK symbol. These two small objects were placed before this individual. The young man said it was done as a joke."

It's hard to believe that "a little macrame" and "placed before this individual" are terms used to describe a hate crime.

The 15-year-old freshman girl is one of only three Black students in a school of 450 students.

However, this is not the first time she has faced racist bullying by her peers.

Apparently, she began her school year with peers who failed to welcome her but made fun of her hair and called her 'Big Mocha.'

The boy's suspension will begin when the students return to school next week.

Somehow, we find it hard to believe that a high school student was as clueless as the principal claims.
