Health Disparities Abound as Latinos and Blacks Face Increased Heart Disease Risks

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that Latinos and Blacks are at a higher risk for heart disease than Whites. 80 percent of Latino men and 71 percent of Latino women living in the US were found to be at risk for at least one of the following: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes, or smoking. Black men and women were found to be twice as likely to die from heart disease compared to similarly aged whites. Indeed, Black women were found to have a higher incidence of both fatal and nonfatal heart disease compared to white women.

Researchers believe more educational campaigns are needed to highlight racial health disparities to prevent premature death and loss of life.

Mayor Thinks Eating Tacos Will Help the Latino Community

Hours after four police officers were arrested for racially profiling and abusing Latinos residents, a reporter asked East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo: 

"What are you going to do for the Latino community today?" The Mayor flippantly responded, "I might have tacos when I go home, I'm not quite sure yet." Watch the interview below to see Mayor Maturo put both of his feet into his mouth.  [Now, I call that flexibility.]

Then, an immigrants' rights group delivered 2,000 tacos to the mayor. Now that his dinner has been delivered, perhaps he can truly address the problems of his city. Mayor Maturo apologized for his taco comment, and the 2,000 tacos were donated to a charity. 

Newt Gingrich - Not a Friend of 'the Blacks' or the Latinos

We've already mentioned his racially-charged messages through out his political career and desperate attempt to make it into the White House.

This is not the first time Newton Leroy Gingrich has used racially charged rhetoric.  

He's had to apologize [with a poor attempt at speaking Spanish] for urging schools to ban ESL programs and opt instead for English immersion programs so that Latino immigrants can learn the language of "prosperity" and escape the language of "living in the ghetto."

Now, I'm all for openness.  Tell us how you really feel!  

We all know the problems with implicit and hidden racism.

Give me Barry Elton Black or Newt Gingrich any day over a person who keeps their racist [or sexist] views inside.

Shame, shame, Newt.  Get your act together or go away.
