Duke University Fraternity Throws 'Racist Rager'

The students at Duke University must be engaged in a battle of who can be the most racist. First, the Duke Lacrosse players wore blackface for their team Halloween Party and blogged about it on the athletic department website. But now, Duke's Kappa Sigma fraternity held an Asian themed party originally called "Kappa Sigma Asia Prime," where attendees dressed up like geishas and sumo wrestlers.

The fraternity members thought it would be clever to use racist language in the salutation for an email about the party,“Herro Nice Duke Peopre.” The invitation went on to state,“We look forward to having Mi, Yu, You and Yo Friends … over for some sake.”

However, even after the university stepped in and advised them to change the name of the party, the fraternity sent out another racist email. The fraternity changed the name of the party to “International Relations: A Celebration of All Cultures and the Diversity of Duke,” but not before they sent out another racist email.

Although the fraternity's parent organization suspended the Duke chapter, the University does not plan to discipline the students over their repeated acts of racism. Shame on these students and shame on Duke. Organized student groups at the University continue to show poor judgment with rape charges, blackface, and now racist themed parties. The student groups at Duke University need to get their acts together. In Twitter terms, Duke is "trending" racist.
