Arizona legislator, Rep. Cecil Ash, proposed a holiday to celebrate Caucasian Americans.
He made this proposal after a Latino legislator, Rep. Richard Miranda, suggested a Latino American Day.
"I just want them to assure me that when we do become in the minority, you'll have a day for us." That's right, Ash said "they". [What ever happened to "we"?]
In retrospect, Ash said he was trying to lighten the mood during the heated debate and make people laugh. He still is not backing down from his comments.
The response to Ash's proposal has been mixed. Still, why not change the focus from separating each ethnic group out into a separate month and focus on creating a well-incorporated history curriculum? Perhaps that is too much to ask.
