This week, the Pew Research Center released The
Rise of Intermarriage: Profiles, Rates Vary by Race and Gender - a report based on polls between 2008 and 2010.
The study shows that both racial and ethnic intermarriage has increased significantly and far more people are accepting of it than in the past. For example, 43% of those polled think interracial marriage is beneficial for society with only 11% saying that it has a negative affect on America.
More than one-third of respondents reported that they have a relative married to a person of another race while almost two-thirds said they would have no problem if a family member chose to do so.
Overall, minorities, liberals, young adults, people who live in the West or Northeast, and the college educated generally view interracial marriage in a positive light.
